Default Need Singer 201 rewired

Is there anyone within 25 miles or so of Salem NH, who rewires antique Singers?

I have what I believe is a 201 in storage, in a nice art deco cabinet, that I need to redo on the top. It was demonstrated and it worked when I got it, in spite of the fact that it has been idle for 26 years, but then I saw the original wiring is all frayed and had to store it for the sake of space.

I work two jobs, so I really don't have time to learn to rewire it and would love to find someone, recommended by this group, in my area who does restores, and wiring, so I can get it done and start using the machine.

Thanks for your help!

Diane

Looks like time constraints prevent rewiring themselves.

Is it just the cord from motor/machine to foot peddle that needs replaced? If so that is about a 15-20 minute job and using a screwdriver. Wish I was closer. I had to replace the cord on Helen, my grandmothers 201-3 a number of years ago.

It is both cords, electrical and foot pedal. I wish you were closer too!

I thought you meant the machine had to be torn down and rewired the internals. Some times you can just buy a plug and put it right on. Yup a 15 minute job with a screwdriver.

Yes Miriam, that is what has to happen. All the wiring has to be replaced, from the machine to the power, the power and the foot pedal.

Some times that old wiring gets real messed up. You do have to know what you are doing to fix it.

If youi can buy the wires from Singer (where I got mine) or sewing classic anyone who does electrical could do it. You unscrew a few screws, put wire around screws and tighten them back up, same on foot peddle. That was what Helen needed. Family way back comes from that area, first find the cords and anyone who is handy should be able to fix it. Way back in another life I repaired crypto machine's in Army so it was easy to put new wire on, just watch how you take old one off and put new one on the same way. I have rewired alot of lamps too, same thing, wire and screws.
