I don't collect them, but I saw this at an antique store earlier today, and thought of this thread.

Kitty, I didn't know they made toy machines with blades! My Betsy Ross looks a lot like Steve's Hamilton Ross. I use it for real sewing sometimes. The chain stitch stretches so it's good for knits. But I need to get a clamp for it because I have to hold it down while I turn the crank. I probably could have fiddled with the tension a bit here.

Are the threaded holes on the underside meant for attaching a base?
It's been a while since I bought the Betsy Ross and cleaned it up, and I forgot about those threaded holes in the bottom. I don't think this machine originally came with a clamp -- it was not mentioned in the instructions I have. Are those threaded holes for attaching a base? This would help to keep the machine stable. As it is I have to hold the machine down with my left hand and guide the fabric with my pinkie. Am I crazy for wanting to sew with a toy?

wow, the case is a mess but it did its job protecting the machine. Look at the little rod for hanging your doll clothes on the upper right! What is the bolt thingy in picture 3?
