I just bought a Singer Red Eye 66 (born 1916) am wondering what I should use to clean her exterior without harming the decals. Also, what is recommended for polishing off the rusty corrosion on the hand wheel? The end plate looks pretty good, but I'd like to shine that up a bit too. I have consulted the web and found different opinions. Since I know a lot of you have a beautiful and cherished vintage machine, I figured you may be a more reliable source. I heard there is a tutorial here on this subject, so I'll look into this. Just thought I would gather all info I can before I do something unintentional but irreversible to my new girl. Thanks.

What a nice machine  In the vintage machine area Billy has posted tutes on cleaning older machines - maybe that will help you http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1013

No, unfortunately the Featherweight she had was a newer model, nothing like the old ones. Oh, well....I'll just have to keep my eyes and ears open. The problem lies in that during my quest for one, I'll run into a heap of other beautiful machines that I will feel compelled to buy. Has anyone ever heard of a Featherweight being in a cabinet with a knee control instead of a foot control? One is advertised locally, but I didn't know they came that way. I thought the whole point for Featherweights was mobility.

There was a cabinet made for the Featherweight. They are rare. Post a pic in the Vintage Machine Shop & they can help you with more info over there.

It looks like the protective coating over the decals is crazed. I would be so very careful with whatever you use. It could wind up silvering the decals. Billy says to use the non-pumice go-jo, but with the damage, it might silver. Ask me how I know! Try it in a hidden spot on the back and stop if you see any silvering. For the handwheel and the plate on the back, he says to use Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish. Wow! That stuff really works great, but takes lots of rubbing. My hands felt like they would fall off. But the results were worth it! Take them off the machine, first!

Oops. Didn't put a before for this one, but it was the same as the back plate. Some of the rust pits were too deep and didn't polish out all the way.
