If you look close at the "Edison" decal you can see the edges of it. It was not put on at the same time as the other ones. More like after the fact. The Edison decal is not the same quality as the others either.

Not quite a clone

Since Miriam was kind enough to post pics of a 15 I figured I'd add to the fun with another Singer. Not Japanese and not a 15 clone underneath, though it sure looks like it from the top. Here's our 115. From above just another 15 with Tiffany decals. From below something quite different. No idea yet if it works as it's further down the line for me to work on. Everything moves, though, so I have some hope.

Candace - what are you using for a foot for free motion. I have a couple different feet - one I like better than the others. Some of the clones have a little lever at the top to push for free motion - just remember to put it back when you are done or you will be very befuddled trying to make the machine sew when you want it to. You may or may not like to use that feature. The dogs do drop easy on a lot of the clones.

This sewing machine is a very "Plain Jane". No JA number on it, serial number Z3303587. Motor is a Sew-Rite, 1.2 amps, 1/4 HP. She needs a complete re-wire and case repair as she did not travel well.

It isn't even the same color and a little crooked - I bet it sews good.

This is one of my favorite machines. Serial number A30515, JA-54. The machine bed is stamped with JC-21 and B.I.C. The motor is made by Quality Sewing Machine Motors, 115 Volts/105 Watts. |
I wonder if that JA is Janome?
|
Miriam,
Probably not. Many if not all Japanese machines have a J-A + number in the casting. This number Ids the manufacturer. As an example Happy used JA 10. Janome when they made New Homes used JA 2 & JA 30. Maruzen made Kenmores and used JA 4. The list is being compiled by on a Yahoo group by Bill Holman as information becomes available, but it isn't complete yet (maybe never will). The manufacturer of the JA 54 hasn't been identified yet. Cathy (probably too much information again)

Wow Cathy you find all kinds of stuff

I collect information (probably more than machines) I keep it on my computer. Heaven help me if my hard drive ever crashes. Although most of it is backed up in the 'clouds'.
