I have the correct light bulb in my all my featherweights and sometimes when I am quilting get too close and YES! they are hot!

Yes, my light gets very hot.

Any incandescent light bulb gets hot, so yes, it's normal for the lights on our old girls to get hot, and you do want to be careful with them!
|
Mine does. I blistered my hand just last week on the FW light.
|
I got a really bad burn a month ago that is just now healing. The lamp gets very hot. I should be used to it, but my palm just stuck to it.
|
I'm not sure of the wattage on mine, but I ordered it from a FW place.

train yourself to lift the presser foot lever with your left hand.

I also have several tattoos - numerous FW, a 201, and a 15. There may be some from a clone or two in there too.
Every time I show someone a machine or teach someone to sew, I tell them "Yes there's a built in light, see it works, now don't turn it on anymore, buy a good light to sit beside it." When they ask why, I show them my tat collection. (and then how the light from the built on one is never in the position you really want it anyway. :)) |
The lights I think work the best are those mounted up inside the arm between the needle and pillar.
The second best is the ancient machines with the light mounted up high on the front side facing away from you but angled down to the work. The WORST are the ones on the clones and mid sized Singers with the open bottom fixtures. Joe |
