Like,.. say 401 style? Probably a reason they stuck with that for so long, a 1980-90ish machine I worked on yesterday had the bulb "up there" too.


The second best is the ancient machines with the light mounted up high on the front side facing away from you but angled down to the work.
Do you have an example? I'm trying to picture it and not doing well.


The WORST are the ones on the clones and mid sized Singers with the open bottom fixtures.

Agreed. Don't much like the ones on the left side of the needle either... I know heat rises, but it doesn't seem to with those bulbs. Always straight down onto the hands.

Yes, I have a 221 FW my bulb does get hot , but, I love the machine.
