Help please with threading an old White bobbin for my treadle.
 

I decided to play with the treadle machine I bought, so I looked at the old White manual online, and cleaned out the whole bobbin area (lots of old thread), but it looks like there are a couple of extra steps to threading the bobbin into the bobbin case. Can anyone help me? Thanks!!

Those "White / Kenmore" type bobbin cases are as simple as a Class 15 singer case. Don't over think them.

Hold it in you left hand open side up, with the little projection pointing up. Put the filled bobbin in the case with the thread coming up from the left side. Draw the string into the little notch to the left of the projection, then across and behind the bottom of it. (If you look at your pic you can see the notch just to the left - bottom of the projection.) Pull the thread up into the grove and between the spring and case. There is a slot on the back side of the spring for the thread to pass through. This is what controls the tension.
Once the bobbin is threaded into the case it should rotate clockwise when you pull on the thread.

Thank you Joe. I think I need a picture of how to get the thread into the groove and slot part. I don't know why I'm having a hard time with this.

Lyncat I know you got it but here is a pic with instructions from my Kenmore instruction manual. The Kenmores, Whites and some others use this type of bobbin case.

Figured out how to thread bobbin...but top thread won't pick it up
 

Thank goodness a group of folks who know what they're talking about! I'm new here, a new owner of a White Dressmaster rotary. Going from my glitchy plastic encased Brother to this will be an adventure.......I hope. I found information on the elaborate threading of the spool, and luckily was able to reverse engineer the threading of the bobbin. My problem lies in getting the top thread to pick up the bobbin thread. I have watched the mechanics in action and frankly, I'm just not seeing how it can happen. So, is there a specific placement of the thread from the bobbin that will make the top thread pick it up? Or is there something else I should be looking at (timing, needle, etc.)?
Posting pictures..........it looks so new because the woman who used to own it was very meticulous and kept the cover on it. Not a scratch!

I have the same machine only in olive drab crinkle. The hand wheel rotates clockwise or away from you. If you turn it counter clockwise or towards you like a Singer or your Brother, it will not pick up the bobbin thread.

Threading the machine is a wee bit different too.
Come off the spool and feed the thread through the guide at the top of the face plate. From there down to the tensioner towards the bottom of the face plate, under the little wire like part then up until it catches the little tiny spring. Then up to the thread take up lever, through the eye on the take up lever from the outside or the side facing you, towards the rear of the machine. Then down to the thread guide on the needle bar, then to the needle. Thread the needle from the left to the right.

And make sure the needle is the correct length.

I had a fun time figuring out the threading and bobbin on mine, but once I did, it sews like a dream. Oh, and now that I have it threaded right, I tie on the new thread and pull it through instead of pulling the old thread out and rethreading. Oh, and it didn't help that when I was cleaning it, I put the little wiry thread thingy back in backwards...(Like my technical jargon?)
