I'm in the wrong business...

I have two nice featherweights and love to sew on a FW, but not at that price. Groceries and bills come first, perhaps new owner has lots of "playdough". I bought my first on Ebay for almost $200.00, and thought that was high. I bought the second one from a young lady here in town that was selling it on our daily radio Hotline- (her grandmother's machine) for $100.00, because she was tired of hauling it around in her moves-'silly girl', but oh well, I have a nice little second one - one is a 1935 and the other a 1937. Love them both, would never pay that high dollar price for one, that age. I paid a little more than that though for my Bernina 930 in 1985 NEW,but I still have it and just love it, and use both FW & Bernina for all of my sewing and quilting. I've made quilts on both. I loved her presentation and videos. You said it Marketing is the name of the game and she is a professional at her marketability.

That is a beautiful machine. The seller did a great job getting her to shine better than brand new.

WOW ... that is a ridiculous price ! 37 bids, someone wanted it REALLY bad ...
Hope they're very happy with it, they will never resell it for even close to that $$$$ |
That is impressive marketing and Alot of people wanting a near perfect Featherweight. My wallet would have been out at $350.00 for such a good looking/running machine... even at $350.00 I would have been having heart palpitations.

The worst part about this whole FW business is that most of these idiots who are buying them for those prices (or ANY price above a couple hundred) are usually buying them for their "investment" value. They will never be sewn with, never be appreciated, just greedily watched for market "upswings".
We collectors are the guilty parties..... This one sold for $200, but that one has the rare blue screw so it's worth $300 and so on..... These machines are cool, but SO not worth that much more than any solid 3/4 sized portable. I know a person who has 12+ FW's and only sews on the thrashed out worst of the bunch to "protect her investments" goofy goofy goofy. So, in an effort to help drive down prices, may I offer the following "Collectors Against Price Stupidity" (CAPS) pledge.... "I solemnly swear that I will NEVER pay more than $250 for a 221 or $500 for a 222" |
Can't understand the obsession with Featherweights.
