Machines on GW

Right now on GW there are some machines that need homes.

A: A Singer 66-16 ( I think) in a case, with all it's electrics, slide plate, owners manual and a box of goodies. Number AH309400 is alloted to Oct -27-47.

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=9681562
Starting bid $5.00, Shipping to IL $20.35.
Auction ends: 4/5/2012 6:05:00 PM PT

I've got 5 66s right now so I really can't justify going for it although I'm very tempted.
It's one of the nicest looking 66s I've seen on GW and they are not gouging on the shipping.

B: An electric machine that looks like a '30s brown crinkle paint White or Kenmore in a cabinet
It looks pretty decent, but there are no extras and the GW folks don't know who made it.

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=9681230
Starting bid $3.00 or $4.00 Buy It Now. Pick up only in Battle Creek, MI
Auction ends: 4/5/2012 6:00:00 PM PT

C: A Bradbury's VS Hand crank machine
It has both slide plates, lots of pretty flowery decals, a round top box that looks pretty good.

Starting bid $9.99 Current minimum bid $10.99
Auction ends: 4/5/2012 1:07:30 PM PT

Nanamoms,

Go for it. I'd love to see that 66 find a good home with a member here.

I check out Shop GW every day!! I have gotten 2 machines off there...they both came in fine condition, although my 99 was packed really carelessly and is lucky to have made it in 1 piece!!

What stops me most of the time is the high shipping costs. Some of those stores will only ship USPS, and the parcel post rates are ridiculous!!

Plus...(ok, I'm bitchin' a little here), some of the stores only do PICK UP ONLY on sewing machines, which leaves out anyone not in that city. BOO!!

Wow, I hope one of the Quilting Board members buys them.

jljack,

I've lost count of the machines we've bought from GW. (Way too many if reality was consulted.) I agree about the shipping prices. There's a couple right now on GW that I'd jump on but they want like $40. + dollars to ship it. Ridiculous.
Most of ours have come to us in great shape, but a couple haven't. Those that didn't were due to lousy packing on the shippers end.
As for the Pick Up only, they can't make up their minds. We're going to INDY next Monday to pick up one that could well have been shipped. They ship others, but not this one. It will be the second one we've gone to INDY for. But we like the drive, it gets us out of IL for day.

I hope some members here buy them too.

Joe,you are an enabler for sure:) Very nice machines but I just bought two (yeah two) featherweights a couple of weeks ago on Craigs List. Both came with all the original manuals, attachments and cases. One is a centenniel (sp)!!!
Now I have a Singer treadle, a 99k, two featherweights, a White Jean machine and a Janome 6500.... A happy lady for sure:):)

My 99k from GW was shipped poorly and the case was all apart when we got it and it cost $40.00 to ship. Hubby and I had to glue the box back together to be able to sit the machine in it....Bummer!!!!

Morag,

I've had two come in like that. Both were not packed well. Both have been glued back together, one is going to be recovered.
Glue and clamps are cheap. The cheapest case I've found is $20.00. I'll spend the time to put them back together.

I think this one is a Montgomery Ward-the badge looks like the one on the Supreme Reversible Rotary I posted about. (http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...y-t183880.html) That, and the back ens shot look pretty similar to Monty.

Too bad I'm not closer! I have a fondness for those ugly old friction drives.
