My TWO new babies!!!

My next door neighbor came over and presented me with two perfect and pristine Singer Featherweights.
One was made in 1950 and the other in 1953...same year I was born. I've been looking for two more Featherweights to go with the two I already have so I can give them to my four grandchildren. I'm still in shock. These machines are almost brand new. Not hardly a scratch or a speck of dust. The cases are also in excellent condition. All the machines need is a servicing and oiling of course. I feel like it's Christmas!!!!

MamaBear61 01-20-2013 04:50 PM

Woo Hooo....I'm so happy for you.... :) I have a few FW's but I would love to have a FW made in 1953!! That's the year that I was born, also....

ETA: How is it that your neighbor had two of them? Were they hers or were they given to her?

MimiBug123 01-20-2013 07:11 PM

I've been looking for one from 1953. That's when I was born, also. So far, I have a 1939 and a 1947. I love those little machines. The noise they make when they sew is so relaxing!

Could you adopt me as a grandchild? Or your neighbor need another neighbor? I would love to give a beautiful FW machine a good home too! Maybe someday mine will come to me!

DogHouseMom 01-20-2013 07:25 PM

O.M.G!! You are one lucky lady! And your neighbor is terrific!

sewbizgirl 01-21-2013 05:02 PM

One of your machines (probably the 1950) is a centennial model. Singer celebrated their centennial (1850-1950) by putting special centennial badges on their machines from about 1950-1952, or as long as the badge supply lasted! Take a closer look at the badges on your machines. The blue one is the centennial. I have a model 201 that's a centennial.

Lucky you, they look great, I need a neighbor like yours. Enjoy them.

Stitch124 01-22-2013 04:27 AM

Good idea Colleen. I picked out a quilt I'm going to make them. They are huge into camping and I found some adorable camper theme fabric so I'll take a pic of the quilt when I'm done with it. Also, I'm making her a shawl for her to wear around her shoulders on those chilly evenings when they are sitting outside the camper with their friends at the campsite. Will share that pic when completed too.

I'm still in shock at how generous they were to give the machines to me for nothing! They really are very sweet and I'm so happy we are neighbors!

Stitch124 01-22-2013 04:28 AM

LOLOL! I do have one more Featherweight but I'm thinking that will go to one more grandchild if my daughter ever gets married again!!!

Yes, I saw that first thing! 1953 was my birth year and I so wanted one from that year. I really can't believe it still. One machine belonged to Doug's mother and the other belonged to a friend's mother. Don't know how they got that one but I'm so grateful, none the less.
