New Home sewing machine model 672
I have been given a model 672 sewing machine and wondered if anyone can tell me anything about them. It hasn't been used in at least 15 years. I want to take it to the fellow who does my machines but wondered if it was worth the cost. It worked fine for my friend until she had issues with her eyes. It hasn't had anything done with it for several years but looks in good shape and is very dusty from setting in a bedroom all those years. Thanking you in advance for any info you can give me.

There are some things you can try before you take it any where. Clean, clean and oil good. Check the wiring. Thread it up and try sewing a little by hand turning the hand wheel. If everything looks ok plug it in and give it a try. If it sews the kind of stitch you want and like machine will probably be ok. But make sure you clean all the lint and give it a good oiling.

What's wrong with it? It will cost you more to service it than the machine is worth, so it really makes sense to do it yourself.

Thank you! I am going to have hubby take it out of the cabinet so I can clean and oil it. Will try it after that and if it doesn't work, the Mennonite fellow that does my machines charges me $35 to clean and maintain so will take it to him.

I posted a ton of links for figuring out the repairs:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...n-t203810.html Is it a zig zag or one that does fancy stitches? We have a couple threads here about the Japanese machines: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t207877.html and the ones that do fancy stitches: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t207880.html I'm thinking I posted a generic manual for zz machines somewhere on one of those links, too. |
I have a New Home that I have been sewing on for 35 years. Never had it in for repairs. It is always ready to sew when I am. I sew on it almost everyday. Still looks and performs like a new machine. Too bad they quit making them as that is what I would buy if something goes wrong with mine. I believe I read somewhere that they were made by Janome? You can tell I am attached to my New Home. I have 5 machines but it is still old favorite. Good luck.

Some them say Janome on them. I agree - those seem to be good machines.

Joy, thank you for your good advice about my New Home 672 machine with advice from Trisha and your kind words about your machine, hubby and I took it apart, cleaned it and oiled it. I let it sit over night and this morning I took it for a trial run. It sews like a charm and purrs like a happy kitty! Am looking forward to making my first quilt with it. Will name her Gertie in honor of my friend who it to me. Will try to attach a picture, although I haven't done that before. Sharon

Hi. I just purchased this machine at a yard sale. I'd love to know what kind of cams this machine takes. Can you post a picture of them? Thanks! :)

Is there a place to put Cams?
