FW=Featherweight. The foot shown is one of the older ones originally made for the machines. I use a modern plastic one that my machine likes. Whichever works.

k9dance,
You seem to know more about this FMQ on the FW than I do. Maybe I shouldn't use this older foot that came with this machine when I bought it. Would I be better off getting a modern plastic one?

Not necessarily. If your machine likes this foot, and you do too, then you are fine with what you have. The advantage of the plastic is that you can see through it, which I find helpful. Also, when I started FMQ on this machine, this is what I could find. I have one of the vintage feet now, but have not yet tried it out. PM me if you decide to try the other, and I'll send more info.
