they write the number because of auto bots. a program that will take any phone number listed, just like a email abby, then these are sold . now you know why you get calls all day long and e mails selling useless junk

p.s. once this bot is in your system it also takes any e mail or p# you have in your computer, meaning all your friends now have the bot / virus, yes these are a tojan.

IMHO, DH and I use craigslist all the time. We have sold and bought cattle, furniture, puppies, cars/trucks, sewing machines, hay, farm equipment, etc. We put in our phone number. We have have met the nicest people whether we are buying or selling. I do except email but have always been able to spot a phony (like 2 or 3 in 8 years). One does have to always be careful. ive bought and sold alot from CL as well, a variety of items from clothes to baby items to firewood and hay, and alot of sewing machines. To be honest, if you don't have a way to email you other than phone calls, I dont respond to the ad. Email is easy to delete, and if i have to give out my phone number to contact someone initially I'm not comfortable with that. Thats just me though. When I post for sale on CL I always use the anonymous email address they provide. I've never had a problem getting spam as a result of posting things for sale or buying there.

And on a forum this large I really don't know just how many people would be interested. Most of us already have a bunch of machines and know what we are looking for. (IE; not wanting plastic gears.) And the one time I looked at the for sale place here it was limited to quilting related items only. Which leaves out a lot of sewing stuff I'd think. Joe Eligible members are allowed to offer sewing machines for sale in our Thrift Shop/Yard Sale section but I don't recommend it. There are several reasons I don't believe it's a good idea: 1. You are required to take at least 40% off current market value when calculating your asking price. 2. You cannot use the "for new" value because all machines sold here are considered used even if they are new in the box. You have to discount 40% from the current market value of a used machine of that make and model. 3. Since we are not a marketplace we will never offer any protection whatsoever to either buyer or seller. We don't get involved in disputes. Unless you are practically giving it away, that's a pretty expensive risk to take for either party. Whenever anybody asks, I highly recommend offering high end items like machines in a proper marketplace where you can set a price as high as you like and that offers protections to buyers and sellers alike. I'm afraid I can't make any personal recommendations. I've never tried to sell a machine anywhere. |
