Two machines were given to me recently. One at a garage sale and one from a group of church ladies who disbanded the quilting bee. The first is a Kenmore 812 in rough shape. It's been attacked by mildew/mold:

This sounds as bad as it looks! DH says the motor is going to blow!

Interesting that this model number on the box is not the one on the machine! Interesting!

The second is a Grand Rotary and it runs like a dream, except the stitches are sooo small and I'm haveing difficulty figuring out how to make them bigger..unless its the opposite of what I'm trying to dial on the thingamabob! I'll try it. This machine came to me in a samsonite suitcase but the wooden case it's in is beautiful! I think the ladies were using this machine when they disbanded!! Here she is:

Oops! The light fell out! I'll bet that's what the rubber band was for, don't you??!!!!

This rough exterior of both machines was probably cheaper!?

Certainly nothing fancy and the cords are a bit frayed, but it purrs!

I'm glad you have given these two dear old ladies a good home.

Great machines! I think the rough exterior was during the WW2 era...lack of paint I think? Enjoy your new toys!

I'm not sure about the first one. I may have a friend look it over. If the motor is bad I wouldn't know what to do about that. And the rubber thing that moves the wheel is worn out pretty bad. I have a PM to Billy to see what his opinion is. I did find a book online about this machine for $17 so may get it. I haven't looked for a book on the grand rotary. It runs so well, though! I will look for one, I'm sure. LOL!

Good for you. I got a Singer 301 this weekend and I can't hardly wait till I get some bobbins to get started.

Beautiful old machines. On the second one, is the stitch regulator the dial below the bobbin wheel? Looks like it might be. I've seen Kenmores like this before---I call them the Stealth machines because they have angles like the Stealth jets but the Grand Rotary is a new one on me.
