My family went antiquing today and came home with this darling. The only problem now is that I have no information on it at all. I know that several of you collect vintage and antique machines and am hoping that someone can date this one for me or at least tell me how to go about it. We've looked at every inch, nook and cranny....there is no writing except the one silver plate that just lists numbers. Any help out there?

Edit: I forgot to say it's got a hand crank but there are holes and hardware to put it on a treadle table. Also uses spindles (I think that's the word) instead of bobbins.

Could this bird be a clue?

What a treasure. I love those old machines.

Okay I am going to have to do some serious research on this one but I am leaning on it being a German machine. It is a design like the Singer 12 but it has a lot of German influence. There were lots of machine makers that copied the Singer design both here in the States and overseas so it could really be anything but I know of a few German makers that used this exact design and were badged for other folks. But it is a beautiful machine and the case is absolutely gorgeous!

WOW!!!! That is absolutely gorgeous!!! I hope you can find out more information about it.

If you would like to clean up the machine you can rub sewing machine oil around, with your fingers, let it sit, and then gently wipe it off with a soft rag or cotton balls.

Quite a beauty. Will you let us know how much was paid for it?
