I'm thinking of placing a bid on that one. 99 cents for the machine and $400 in gas. :)

Jon, the cap is plastic. I have the top of the cap and it has just a couple of rounds of thread on it. The rest of the cap is screwed in flush with the metal square around the spring. I have not tried to move the spring, but have used the edge of a screwdriver on the plastic part of the cap to see if I can get it to move, and I can't. I could try a heavy needle to see if it will budge it at all. I'm thinking that the best thing to do is to either leave it taped, which is temporary at best, or glue the cap down on the thing. I'd be very careful about the glue if I did that as I know I don't want it to get into the spring area.
You aren't talking about putting the screwdriver in the square metal part around the spring, are you? The metal isn't part of the plastic screw, is it? I figured it was part of the motor unit. If the cap doesn't come off fairly easily with the flat screwdriver, I would keep it taped or pin point glue untill the brushes wear out which is hopefully a long time off. You can fool with it then. Didn't Davis farm out their cabinet construction? I'm probably wrong, thinking of another company, but I think I remember someone else built their cabinets. So that could account for all the different handles. I have 1970s dresser drawer round handles on my pumpkin orange Davis cabinet....LOL They never thought of those in 1915!!

How did the first bra attempt turn out?
Well, the body of the quilt is done. I am now piecing the borders! Here is a really good deal and I love the cabinets that say the name of the machine! http://sacramento.craigslist.org/atq/3052343175.html Nancy |

I have met several coyotes out riding . . . they don't care how close I get on horseback. I also have seen a couple mountain lions, several bobcats, and foxes, but I don't take my dogs along! They'd probably be coyote dinner!

Now that everyone is back in the shop, I'll ask my question again....does anyone know the measurements for a 3/4 machine? That little New Glenwood I just got seems small to me, but I don't know what size is considered 3/4. Anyone who hasn't seen the picture, go look in th Pictures thread. She's a real beauty....those decals are in great condition, and they just glow!!
