I just got done with this Kenmore Stylist 86 today. I had to tear it down almost completely as it was really dirty as you can see. I evicted the previous tenants (mice) and their food (corn) cleaned every part on it and rewired everything but the light but including the motor. A lot of work for a $45 machine I know, but it was going to go to the scrap yard if I didn't take it. It was a Sophie's Choice kind of thing. But now, hopefully someone will be able to enjoy it for another 50 years. I didn't get any true "Before" pictures, but I am sure you all will get the jist of how bad it was and how it looks now. And it sews beautifully. ~G~

Joe it wasn't the Bight control knob that I messed with - well I do that too -, but the actual position finger that is the clearance for the thread from the bobbin casing. I just messed with everything actually. Anyway, the 319 seems to be a little touchy.
Skip nice to have you back. Now tell me how much you use your 319 in treadle? I use mine almost everyday, if not to piece something, then to mend something. It is so easy to get to all the time. The fact that the 319 has decorative stitches means that no matter what I need to do - that machine can usually handle it. But, I am now getting a little worried because I seem to mess it up a lot! There was a 319 just like mine (with a motor, but I'd just do a motorectomy) on our local Craigslist for $30 - in a cabinet - last week. By the time I saw the ad, it was already sold! I was going to get that one for a backup machine! Nancy Skip BTW I still have the motor and light for my 319 and it is in a cabinet somewhere |
I have a 3/4 size class 15 that is badged 'Dynamic.' It is a twin to the Cinderella.

Ok you wonderful folks, I am knee deep teaching kids and my respite is treadling. Unfortunately my White Family Rotary (new to me, old to everyone else) treadle is giving me fits!! The top thread refuses to go down and around the bobbin shuttle without catching. Yes, I've lubed everything and loosened the tension. Yes, it is finally threaded correctly (both bobbin case and machine). That took some serious looking at the instructions to get both correct.
The top thread keeps catching! What, oh what, am I doing wrong? Massive birds' nest every time are making me more stressed, not less!! As if state testing wasn't enough already!!! |

Are you remembering to turn the handwheel away from you...the opposite of the Singers?
