That surely is a good looking machine. Looks very clean too. Don't know what you should offer. But am sure people on our wonderful QB will know. Always seems as if you'll find some one here to answer almost any question you might have.

I converted a White embossed to Treadle - smooth as butter. Nice stitch. She was not in great shape when I got her, but she cleaned up real nice.

I loved her so much I purchased another one on Ebay. She is a White Embossed (with a tail in a Martha White cabinet). She is on her way to NC via Pony Express. She will be in Ohio at the end of this month waiting for a pony volunteer to take her on her next step home. If she gets to the DC/MD area she has a ride all the way home.
She and I are 'meeting' so many nice people and are having a lot of fun.

Anyone coming my way? You can follow her journey in the "In Search of" section on this Board ("Help Bring Her Home).

I have a White Rotary that I would not trade for anything. They are real work horses and can sew through many layers of fabric even leather. I gave $25 for mine at an estate sale. I also have another one that I haven't found a cabinet that I gave $40 for from Ebay. $50 would be a good price for it if it has the cabinet too. I would ask to check it out to see if it works.

This machine and cabinet is identical to one of the six machines I bought for a total of $50 last week. Since there were six machines, I haven't gotten to this one to clean up yet. I started today with the Singer 66 HC. I have no recent experience with Whites. I haven't gotten to google them yet so I can get a manual. Do you have a suggestion of a good site for information, models, type of cabinets and manuals for Whites? I just love this cabinet.

It's mine ... it is in the back of my car - had margaritas for dinner so am in no shape to pull it out and play so it will spend the night in th car. I hope my hubby is up early so he can help me get it out of my car. The lady said it works - my husband looked at the cord when we picked it up and he thought it looked older than 1945 - I wonder if it would be worth taking it into the shop that I use for repairs/maintenance and see what they have to say when they are actually looking at it instead of listening to my description. I am SO EXCITED!

Dating a White Sewing Machine

Call 1-800-446-2333. They will ask for your zip code, name, state your calling from. Give them the serial number and they will date for you. Just found out my old machine is 1946, Cleveland, OH. I picked it up about 30 years ago for $50.00. It's sewn denim jackets, leather handbags and wedding gowns. Looking to sell it now - really don't need four machines!

Depending on the age of that unit you might want to just replace the electrical cording. It was common for much of the cloth covered wiring to use asbestos as part of the insulation to avoid "overheating issues". we know better now.

Yup, he's correct. All the handwheels on White Rotaries turn clockwise (away from you).

The embossed White Rotaries were made in the 1930s, I can't remember more exactly that that.

Mary,

Speaking of White Rotary treadles, one source that I read said that the direction on the handwheel is opposite on these from Singers - you push it away from you instead of pulling it toward you. I've got my eye on a very nice looking example but if that person was right I'll pass as I already have a push-to-go (Singer 9W) and I find it annoying. Was he correct?

Hello Mary, do you still have your White machine? I just picked one up, for unfortunately $50, and not in as good shape as yours. If you still have the machine could you take pictures of the back of it for me? I have a lot of missing pieces and want to see what is missing in the back of it. do your drawers and cover lock? thank you, Rhonda
