This package of screen latches cost less than $2.00 at Lowes. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o.../Newlatchs.jpg Depending on your case and machine you might have to shorten the mounting part of the latch a bit, I shortened this one just over an 1/8". But they work very well, look good and won't chip the finish on the machine. Joe |

Joe, Great idea!! You are very resourceful! You remind me of Macgyver, did you ever see that show? I always look forward to seeing how you repair and solve issues with the older sewing machines.

Be careful- the plastic ones can snap off. There are metal ones made for securing old storm windows and screens to the house and they are much sturdier.

Would have bought and tried the metal ones, but Lowes didn't have them. The plastic these are made from is very tough. I had to use my Dremel with a cut off wheel to cut it. Since all the latch does is keep the base from swinging away from the machine when you pick it up, I'm not overly concerned.
Pollyanna was disgusted because Fiona our long hair Persian / angora was deviling her. Joe |
