Default Singer 15-91

In 1938 my Grandmother bought a new sewing machine in a sewing table with Queen Anne legs. When she passed in 1986 my mother brought it to our house and put in in a room no one used. We thought it was just a table. When my mother passed in 2011, I realized it was a sewing machine and brought it to my house. Last week my sewing machine friend was here working on my mid arm and he was able to finally remove it from the table! He took it to his shop and brought it back to life!! I brought it home today and put it back in the table. It sews like a dream!! He said it had very little use as most of its decals are intact only the ones that material ran across were slightly worn. It gorgeous!! The table is in pretty bad shape but usable!! I am really excited!! It's beautiful and means a lot because I know the original owner!! I will enjoy it for many years and then pass to my child!! How much fun!

It's always a bit extra special isn't it when you know the story/life of the machine. Adds another dimension and an extra layer of "warm and fuzzy" to the heartstrings!

A sewing machine with family history is ever so special. Lucky you.

Once you start using it you won't look at modern machines the same. Knowing it's history just adds to the joy.

you said it right Rodney. Now all I want is antique sewing machines. Won't even touch my wife's Husqvarna with a 10-foot pole. And this antique sewing machines is so addictive

x2 on this... I put in some work to find my Viking 1030 Straight stitcher because of the Viking ability to gear down and stitch through most things accurately, but once I started using pre-electric machines I have not touched it since....

My "main" machine is a 30 year old Viking 990. I told my DH that if it ever goes out, I'll pick one of our other vintage machines for my main sewer. I looked at new machines, and just can't warm up to all the electronics, and I doubt any of them would last 30 years. The 990 is the first generation electronic Viking and it's got enough non-metal in it that I don't expect it to last to meet my lifelong sewing needs. But I know I've got many more machines that have been around for 100 years, and could be expected to be working as well in another 100 years.
