Here are a couple of links regarding Singer sewing machine wiring.

Thanks for all the replies. It was an easy process, as I was hoping it would be. I'm redoing my sister's machine, and I wanted to make sure I got it right! 😉

I just got my 201-2. It came with the cord you are talking about. It plugs into the machine with 2 cords. One to the outlet and the other to the foot controller.

Hello,
New here, and I have the same problem as mentioned above. My 201-2 came with a hardwired power cord (behind the bakelite receptacle) with a single cord pedal plug. I would like to convert my configuration to a dual power/pedal plug, and use Sew-Classics electronic foot pedal. I've read what's been written here, but I'm sort of stoopid and wanted to know if anyone has ever found a step-by-step for this conversion? Thank you!

Are you sure it's the version with gear driven motor (a.k.a. potted) or has it an external belt driven motor in the back? Is it even a 201? The plug and socket on the machine are usually three prong. There are hard wired models, but it tends to be 99s or 185s and a few others.

If you want it converted to the typical 201-2 socket and plug setup, you need the black bakelite socket and plug set with the white power switch. If you have a belt driven model, it's a three prong plug set with out the power switch. I guess these are missing on yours. If your have a 201, what you have now can't be the original motor and plug setup. There are wiring diagrams available. There's not real hurry to replace the button type bakelite pedal, it's quite good when it's adjusted and working well. If you post pictures of your machine it would be easier to give more detailed info.

There are step by step rewiring tutorials for the 201-2, and it can be used for converting your 201.
