I found not one, but two! I am sure I posted about this before. It was at a small junky estate sale run by family. I asked my usual question about them having any sewing machines or attachments. They led me to a back bedroom, which hadn't been opened for the sale. It was almost empty, except for a big cardboard box filled with miscellaneous. There was a puzzle box, a table mount Singer pinking setup, two penguins, and some other interesting old stuff.
One penguin was in good working order, and the other had a detached spring. I gave the dysfunctional one to a good friend, and she fixed it with no problem.
The original owner was a Singer teacher/demonstrator for a local shop in the 1950's.
So the moral of the story is to never leave a rock unturned.

Patience and persistence pays off. On a similar note there was a Stanley hand plane I've wanted for years, a Stanley #112 scraper plane. I've been wanting one since the 1990s but couldn't justify Ebay prices for one-usually $150 and up. I finally found one locally for $8.00 at a garage sale. I told the guy it was worth a lot more but he told me to take it anyway so I finally have my plane. A penguin will happen too.
