Hi, was at an antique fair and saw a treadle machine called a Damascus. Can anyone tell me when it was made? It was in a beautiful cabinet and they wanted 300.00 for it but was willing to dicker. passed it up but was curious about it. Can anyone tell me about it?

I have a Damascus Treadle. A friend gave it to me. I think Montgomery Ward sold them. I have put a new belt on and it sews fine. Barny That is about all I know. They had turned to electric, but I put it back on treadle.

Wards sold machines under the Damascus name for many years (like 1900's to 1940's) so the name does not help with age. A picture would at least identify the specific National model, and that would help to give a ballpark age.

$300 sounds pretty steep for a treadle. What state are you in? The Montgomery Ward Damascus has pretty decals.

I purchased a Damascus Grand treadle machine on an estate auction several years ago and paid $50 for it; an uncle of mine was also at the sale and told me I got a really good deal on it (he bought and sold antiques after his retirement from farming). And yes, it is a Montgomery Ward Damascus, and it sews!

It is in beautiful shape, has all the attachments and the instruction manual, and yes, it does sew.
