Default Vintage Bamberger/Clone sews backwards only

Hi, I have this cloned machine that a previous person tried to redo the wiring and now the machine only sews backwards...Could it be that something with the wiring is reversed?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the two wires that connect to the brush terminals need to be reversed.

On some motors the wires can be reversed and the motor will run backwards. On others it won't matter. But that does sound plausible.
Also if the machine has one of the old huge Hamilton-Beach type motors they have a pair of knobs which can be moved to change the motor rotation.

I'm hoping that will be the solution...I hate to get rid of the machine ...It's so pretty...

Thanks so much for the responses...

A couple pics of the machine and it's motor would go a long way in things like this. There were so many hundreds of clone names that the name only doesn't really tell the story.

Does it stitch backwards only when you run the motor, or also when you turn the handwheel?

Only with the motor, probably what everyone was saying.

Handwheel too - 1. the machine is designed to crank backwards from what we're used to - i.e the handwheel turns away from us, not toward - but I don't think that's the case with this particular machine. 2. The feed dog timing is off by 180 degrees.
