I wouldn't mind knowing which Singer dealer, since there isn't one in town anymore, hasn't been for almost a year, "appraised" this at $800.

It's a featherweight. Nothing "special" about it.
Here's what I wrote back to her:
Hi (name removed to protect the guilty),
OK, that's not the one I’m looking for.
I would suggest that you put photos of the machine up on the Kijiji Ad, and let people know that it's a featherweight 221.
That said, the Singer dealer you spoke with misinformed you. That machine is neither rare or pricy. There were literally millions of them made in the 30 years Singer was building them.
The things that make a 221 rare are things like a Centennial badge, a mint green one (usually referred to as white), a tan one, a red badge, or a special badge like a Texas State fair badge.
There's also a truly relatively rare version of the featherweight, about 200, 000 made in all the years they were being made, called a 222. It's the open arm version of the 221. That one would sell for $800 in a minute.
They typically sell in the $250 range for the shape that you have it in. Perhaps about 5 years ago, you would have gotten $500 for it, there were a lot of people looking for them then, but the interest has died off.
The last 3 featherweights I bought were $75, $95 and $125.

Good luck with your sale.
