Not sure it helps at this late date (I see the thread was started in July) but just in case... I have a 17741 and it is low shank. It is also my first and absolute favorite Kenmore.

I have a 158.16510 and it's low-shank as well.

I'm not 100% positive but I think all cams for the 158 line of Kenmores are interchangeable. The cam set I bought was originally from a 17XXX model machine but work fine in mine.
