Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
I went to the first auction ever in my life. Stood around for 5 hours before they auctioned off 100+ machines. Some were too rich for my tight wad blood. Then they did a choice thing. I got 9 machines total. Then the auctioneer got tired so he says $5 each takes all - well that was going to be $300 and half of them were plastic machines and then there were cripples and some that maybe could be combined to make one machine - no foot controls parts missing and who knows if they worked, so I had to force myself to pass - there were some more I would have liked to have gotten for parts. Oh well. What made me sick was the Amish guy bought them and tossed them in the back of a pick up truck. Then he tried to buy a couple I picked up - I'm hanging on to them. I don't even know for sure what I have - they are going to the shop some time tomorrow. I guess the Amish guy doesn't need foot controls... Then I was standing around waiting to see what else was coming up and the DIL of the deceased said they took all the good machines to Indianapolis to an auction..... a couple weeks ago..... ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be making the long drive tomorrow to pick up the Davis treadle, and am trying to make sure I have everything I need to have a safe, secure trip. As I've mentioned before, I will be using a Geo Metro hatchback. I've put the back seat down.
I found this, with directions how to take the head out.

I have the flat and Phillips screwdrivers. Someone said big pillows, ziplock bags - anything else?
I am still worrying about the fact that I think it should be a coffin top. Will I be able to fit the cabinet, head and coffin top along with my sister?

They never seem to get to what I want at auctions until the end. Makes for better bargains, but I've learned you have to bring something to do to keep from getting bored, unless you really, really like people watching!

ETA: Your machine has been altered...the originals had backclamping attachments...your presser bar has been changed out to take side clamping attachments.

The 66-1 is a backclamp treadle machine. The 66-3 is a backclamp handcrank machine. That's the only difference between the two.

Whew! I'm back again! Haven't been around much this past week or so...we had our Christmas party last night, and may I say, as much fun as we had, I am SO glad it's over! LOL Every day off and every evening for the past couple of weeks has been spent baking cookies or making candy, when I would have rather been playing with machines!
Think the spousal unit may have purchased a Rocketeer for me for Christmas...I pointed it out to him on Craig's list, and I know he checked it out on another computer... ~fingers crossed~

Yes, they ARE beautiful machines! In my opinion, the changed presser bar doesn't de-value (is that even a word?? LOL ) the machine at all, since it makes it so that you can use any short shank attachments!
