Thanks for the info! I did go look at the Singer yesterday, did not purchase, seemed to have little glitches or maybe a little too touchy for me.
Okay I will keep my eyes open for a Singer 15-91, hopefully there will be a day I venture into FM.
Love the pic of the black horse! I own a 24yr old bay qtr/pt mare, I have had her since conception.

I failed to mention the machine what I have now is a Pfaff 2044 quilting expression, with IDT, and decorative stitches, bought Nov. 2011. I do love it, it seems to be a forgiving machine and a workhorse, the decorative stitches are not big priority for me, I probably prefer a beautiful straight stitch with a larger arch/drop feed dogs for FM
I am pondering the 2022 for simply a back up and as a loaner for a twelve year old granddaughter.
Maybe I will end up buying two machines??? Thanks for the input.

Thank you Jo Anne, that 'black horse' is BoJangles. I purchased him when he was 3 months old. He is now 10 and beautiful, but a hand full! I love to hear the stories of people who 'keep' their animals the animal's whole life!

we have 2 horses as well. They are half arabian, half quarter horse. Half brother/sister. They are 1 1/2 and 2 yrs old. Still working with them to get them broke. We've had them for almost a year now. Hubby's aunt had to get rid of all her horses so we took these two. We've "unofficially" named them Hershey (boy) and Night Star (girl) The girl is the bigger of the two.

Here are the two newest members of my SM family. I haven't dated the White yet. I'm guessing 20s or 30s. She is in full working order, and has all her manual, attachments, several bobbins and even an extra package of needles. About as complete as they come.

This is the 1886 Singer 115 treadle I picked up yesterday. She's got 2 bobbins but no attachments. I think I have attachments that will fit her though. She just needs a little oil and a belt to be up and running.

I think I've hit maximum capacity on machines...plus I don't have anything else on my "wish list". I'm over 60 machines right now. I could open my own museum haha!

Hey Jenn,

Are you sure that's a 115? It looks like a VS (variable shuttle) machine. It takes a long bobbin, right? And it doesn't have a tensioner on the faceplate, I thought all the 15 series had them on the left. I also thought the 115 was a later model, not the 15 mind you.... the long plates and the "Shovel" plate at the top make it look like a VS /27 style machine to me...

This one looks a lot like the 1889 VS2 I have here... only in better shape (yours, not mine) but I'd be interested in knowing if I've misidentified mine...

Well, I may stand corrected. Looking at the SN on the ISMACS list it dates to 1891. (SN 10346879) I thought it might be earlier because of the patent date on the front slide plate (1886) I was going off photos I found to identify the model. I don't have anything in my collection really to compare it with, but it is too big to be a 27 I believe. This is a pretty large machine. Bigger than my 15 clones. (I don't have a Singer 15) Alekia has the same machine and we thought we had identified it as a 115 but maybe we were mistaken.

So THAT's what my White's cabinet is supposed to look like! Very nice...mine is not in such fine condition.

I'm pretty sure the 115 is exactly the same size and shape as the 15, though I haven't put them side by side to be sure. This one definitely looks like a vibrating shuttle machine rather than a rotary.

The White is gorgeous. I like that decal set, it looks almost stately.

The Patent date only shows you how early it could be, as you found out.
Like all those puzzle boxes that people say are 1889, that's the oldest they can be, but are likely newer.
In fact, likely are newer. From patent date to production date would likely have taken some time, especially back then.

Here's my understanding:

The VS2 which preceded the 27 is the same size as a 27, both are full size machines. The 28 (VS3) is the small one.
If you can give me some measurements, I can compare to my 27 and VS2 here. The tensioner on the left (face plate) and the single (left) slide plate on a 15 series is what tells me this is not a 15 series. The VS series have always had the 2 long front and back slides plates and the shovel shaped plate at the top and a long bobbin in a "bullet" or boat shuttle, as far as I know.

But I'd be happy to have any updates or correction to this...
