Default What do I use to remove scotch tape and sticky from the black finish??

Well, I bought another 15-91..... my SIL used mine to FMQ a piece a couple of weeks ago so I was out hunting for another machine to give her for her birthday coming up soon. The machine is in pretty good condition but dirty.... nicotine stains, fuzz and dust everywhere. The lady I bought it from said she used it a lot making her kids clothes, etc., but the decals are very good so I'm thinking it wasn't used as much as many I've seen.

The problem is that there are a couple of strips of scotch tape on the bed and a strip of sticky goo that I assume was another strip of scotch tape that was removed. I know I've seen solutions for removing the tape and sticky but can't remember where and I didn't print it out.... that's the only way I can keep things once I've found them.
I don't want to damage the nice finish so I assume I shouldn't use goo-be-gone. Wouldn't that ruin the finish? What should I use? The tape appears to have been stuck down for years.

I'll go take a picture and post it so you all can see the problem I'm asking about.

I think I would start with drops of liquid dish soap on the sticky and gently massage it with my finger tip and see if that takes it off. I would then try Goo Gone if that doesn't work but I don't know how that would effect the finish.

Try using sewing machine oil or WD40. I've also used lemon or orange oil on other surfaces but don't know how it will affect the finish of your machine or the decals.

Does lighter fluid negatively affect the finish on those machines?

I've used goo-b-gone, but one needs to be careful. As usual, test a patch before going all out.

you might have some luck with a hair dryer softening it up, and then peeling it back with a finger nail.

I would not peel the tape or use goo-gone or anything of the sort. I would only use oil and a fingernail and patience. Peeling it could well lift the shellac or decals.

Oil will do the trick; just be patient, let it seep under there and do its thing.

Congrats on a very nice machine!
