What is a good price for a featherweight?
Shop we were in yesterday has a sphinx featherweight ~ all attachments, books, decals nearly intact ~ just some wear where fabric feeds under needle. They are asking $350. Is that a good price?

there 'might' be a sphinx featherweight in that time when the featherweights were reissued? Maybe 20 years ago. They were junk.
Beyond that I agree with Glen. If you can pick it up with one or two fingers, it might be
If you need both arms, it isn't.

I paid $300.00 for a 1927 Feather weight at an auction where there were about 50 women. I think it was spot on. Not a bargain, not too much. I posted her picture in this board. I named her Judith Anne.

It depends on the condition. If it works, looks nice, has it's bobbin cover, case, controller and some accessories, that's about right in my area. They generally go for about $260.00 in what appears to be good condition on shopgoodwill.com. There's at least one there on most days. Then you have to add freight. $350.00 to $400. is the asking price here on Craig's list.

To help identify the machine here are some links.
Here is link to "Judith Anne" and is an actual Featherweight http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t287541.html
This link is for a model 27 with Sphinx decals http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...n-t169045.html
And the link for a reissue 15N or 15CH with Sphinx decals http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...t192988-2.html
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

In 2005, I paid $500 for my f. weight. It had not been used, had all of the attachments, all of the decals on the machine, was in good shape and sews beautifully.
Really thought I was paying too much, but f. weights were very hard to find then. From what I read, there are more out there now.
This is a 1942 model, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I really believe they come an go in spurts.
Good luck!

Is this a confession or what?? I found a 1939 nice featherweight complete with 10 bobbins, nice case, and an user manual on Craigslist for $25. I felt a little guilty, so paid the fellow $40. Still it was a steal. She is a joy to use...purrs right along.

If your FW was made in 1927, its not a FW. They didn't make them until 1933.
