Try this: Finished size x 2 + 1.5

For example, for 1.5 finished block it would be 1.5 x 2 = 3 then 3 + 1.5 = 4.5" cut square.

For a 3" finished block, 3 x 2 + 1.5 = 6 + 1.5 = 7.5 cut square
