A Gizmo is a small ruler. I ordered mine from http://www.sallyschneider.com/

Let me see if I can explain this. For regular HSTs you cut squares 7/8ths of an inch bigger than your finished size.

With Thangles you cut strips 1/2 inch wider than your finished size and strips the length of the papers.

With the Gizmo you cut strips 1/2 inch wider and then cut rectangles 1 inch longer and use the Gizmo to mark your stitching lines.

The measurement for the length of the Thangles strips and the same number of rectangles for the Gizmo HSTs is the same.
