I've found that the $12 ones last me just as long as the $65 one I bought, none of them last but about 1 yr, even if I don't knock them off! I have the extra wide board from WalMart and my husband cut a board to go on top of it so I don't have to deal with the tapered end. I don't know why someone hasn't invented a "quilters ironing board"
