I just did a quilt stitching the binding to the back first and it is a good way to do it.
I need fewer pins and it is easy to see the stitchs you want to follow so you stay close to the ditch on the back.
The difference is you have stitchs on the edge of the binding on the front. I like it and no hand sewing.
