I made this one strictly to practice with my PC Quilter on. I digitized most of the flowers in the quilting and every row is a different flower. The pattern is a simplified version of Warm Wishes. I think it was on McCalls or Quick Quilts. Basically a 3 rail fence alternating with a square and you turn the rails to frame the square.
I gave it to my oldest granddaughter (8 years old) to get it out of my sight. Her mother likes the bright on black designs and I normally do, also--just not like this. I even used a bright rainbow variegated thread to quilt it.
I did learn a lot about using my PC Quilter and digitizing patterns for it so it was worth it.
The second quilt was one of the first I ever made. I was teaching myself how to paper-piece, use templates, design my own blocks, color theory, etc. Then I had a large pile of blocks with basically the same color scheme but no way to quilt it with a 6" throat machine at the time so I quilted them block by block (Quilt as you go before I knew what QAYG meant) I used sashing strips front and back between the blocks but didn't make them large enough. The back is a really pretty sapphire blue flannel but I didn't pre-wash it so it pulled apart in areas so I loaded it down with Fray Check. Now I always pre-wash & dry flannel on the hottest setting.
My youngest son--about 8 at the time--loved it until he outgrew it.
