Be sure that you use all cottons in the construction to avoid scorching of fabric. My first potato bag was a gift and scorched on the corner after a few uses. Naturally, I began making them as gifts also. Then one of these scorched. After analyzing construction, I finally decided that it had to be the polyester covered cotton thread that I had used. Now I use cotton thread and have had no more scorched bags.

To make construction and use a lot easier, I just flip the top over like a purse. Much easier to insert and remove potatoes.
No need to decorate front - just use attractive printed fabrics. There are a lot of fabrics out there printed with fruits, veggies, etc. Be sure and wash the fabric first to remove any excess dye and the sizing.

These sell for $10 on the net. The friend who gave me mine - at last count - had sold 132.

By the way, I cut mine 11x22. I like that little extra width.

Good luck with your project.
