The layers of this were as follows: Backing, batting, green/blue, purple/blue, peacock spotty piece, flesh, then black. That is right 8 layers thoughout the whole quilt.
The backing was marked with the design. I sewed on all of the marked lines, flipped it to the front, and started carefully cutting with tiny, sharp scissors, to that layer that I wanted to show in that spot.
In traditional reverse applique, you would have turned the raw edges under and hand stitched in place.
See, easy peasy. Everything I do is easy! I just hope it looks hard, but nothing to it!
