Just on the fly, the other night I put together the cutest little pinwheel quilt with some flannel remnants. Tried the tube quilt method to create my blocks after I cut my strips, but after sewing them all together, when I went to cut them I cut one on the "wrong" side - so now I have 11-1/2 squares that are perfect, and one square that is fine for one half but the other half doesn't match up correctly. I'm out of fabric! What do I do, and why was I so silly???? I hate to make my quilt 3 blocks x 3 blocks; it really needs to be the full 3 x 4 blocks to have a nice flow to the pinwheels. Sigh. I am waaaaaaay too much a novice to be trying things "on the fly!"
