First, congratulations on your find at the estate sale.

That's the way I learned to do Sunbonnet Sue back in the 70s - hat and sleeves are the same solid, dress is a coordinating print, and the shoes either matched the sleeves and hat or were black. That was also what was published in the limited number of books we had back then. It is probably the more traditional way to do Sue.

It's up to you if you want to do a more traditional quilt or go in a completely different direction or do a combination of traditional and something else. That's the really great thing about quilting, you have creative license to do whatever you want.
