I personally like the design very much. I think I would go with small prints, textures and solids combined. I would probably use a combination of two colors like blue and yellow, if I couldn't find enough shades of blue. The design does not look like a difficult one yet it will take a considerable amount of time. I think you will end up with a beautiful quilt.
