Hi Kim I like it and for sure use the flag on the back. The faux piping is like a skinny folded fabric strip that is sewn in, between the red and blue. so it is more like an accent take a 3/4 inch strip and fold it in half lay it between the red and blue with the fold tothe inside and see if you like it if so then make strips for the length and width of your project.
