I love Aurifil Thread. It sews like a dream and there is very little lint. Comes in many weights and colors. Yes, a spool does last a long time. However, all of that said, I don't like being told what to do to or buy either and I agree that as long as you use good thread you should be OK. Yes, your machine will tell you.
