I did this to my Model 27 Singer that I painted a Candy Rootbeer I used a dark red clear sheet and made my shuttle plates out of it. Now I can watch my shuttle go back and forth while sewing.

Its easy to do just go to the hobby shop and get the sheet. Its about the thickness of a credit card and cuts with scissors with ease. They use the stuff for windshields and bodies for models.
