In a nut shell that is what I did. My strips were 2 1/2 inch wide, sew 4 strips together lengthwise. I had used 5 colors but it is better to use 4. I used a 6 1/2in QST, lined the corners with the middle seam and cut.
I was actually trying to recreate a quilt my DGM made for me,(yrs ago) it was a scrappy that has been loved to death. I keep it put away cause it is falling apart and my DH keeps finding it and using it sit under on the couch. I finally told him that quilt does not belong in the livingroom now put it away. So I figured I better make him one. It was a nice surprise to see the design.
Have fun making this one. I found it quick and easy to cut but now let's see if I can get all those seams lined up as close as possible.
