Hummingbirds are one of the best signs that spring will truly arrive. We have plastic feeders. I always look for feeders with perches since I like to watch the birds sit and look around from it. My DH thinks the mix should be more like 1-1 so the bird formula changes depending on who fills the feeders.
One year we had big black hornets take ownership of one feeder. They didn't climb inside it, but the birds and the bees had quite the battles over who would drink from which side. I felt sorry for the birds, but they would scope out the scene, then swoop in on the undefended side and sneak a drink before the bee could get over there, then swoop away. The hummingbirds fight each other over who will drink from where, so they have a lot of effective tactics.
