Billy,
A side clamp is refering to where the attachments(feet) are
screwed on. The older model 66 Singers were back clampers, meaning that the attachment screw was at the rear of the presser foot bar; the feet look very different.
Many of them were converted when the side mounted attachment screw type machines came out, so that the machines could use the newer feet.
