Neither the 301 or the Featherweight have on/off switches. The switch that you are refering to on your Featherweight is to turn the light on and off; the light switch for a 301 is under the arm and its a turn knob.
Don't leave your Singer 221/301 plugged when not being used as it could potentially cause a fire.

Gosh Thanks for the info. I have a black 301A longbed. I was cleaning it out yesterday and started sewing than I heard a clacky, clacky noise and tore the whole bobbin area and changed feet and needle only for that noise to keep on. I was ready to take it to my ol sewing machine fixer upper guy. When I deceided to read the manual and read the part about if you take the guide off to make sure the bobbin pin is between the two notches on the guide. Well lo an Behold the noise stopped. It helps to read the instructions.
