I tested each of the features you noted and each was user friendly and successful.
In addition,
If nothing is entered in the topic field, I got no search results eventhough a user id was put in the advanced options field.
As a bonus, the topic field is searching by 'Title and/or content' word 'to the letter'. (Changes the search results using the singular and the plural of a word.)
As an example:
dsb38327. (the word) All (in the topic field) shows all of the post I have created.
dsb38327. (the word) sun (in the topic field) shows the one post I made that has the word 'sun' in it.
dsb38327. (the word) sunshine (in the topic field) shows my posts that have the word 'sunshine' in them.
This worked as well using lostn51/thunderstorm & thunderstorms.
