Due to schedules, travel, and life in general, we were not able to exchange Christmas gifts with our friends until Memorial Day. That worked out well for us since their 5-year-old son is one of our honorary nephews and received a quilt for Christmas! We finished it Saturday.

We also made a pillow case, and tucked the quilt into it, along with a new pillow. Our idea was that this would be a drag-around quilt that he would use watching TV or camping in the backyard. When he opened it, he draped it over his shoulder and said "Kim, take a picture!" When the picture was made he raced upstairs to his room, threw the pillows and bedspread off the bed "Mom, I don't need THIS anymore", and proceeded to put the new quilt and pillow on his bed. He is still in a toddler bed, so it was a good fit. He has decided that our quilt is his new bedspread. Then he said "Now I need to try it out," jumped into the bed, and pulled the cover up to his chin.

It was such an awesome feeling seeing a 5-year-old really appreciate our handiwork and wanting to use it. It makes the HUGE learning curve we have been on worthwhile.

Thanks,

Darren
