Hi, I've been checking out this site for quite awhile and really enjoy it. My mom and aunt started teaching my sisters and I to sew when we were little girls, starting with clothes for our Barbie dolls. The year I turned 10 we got an old black Singer for Christmas, best present ever. Mom and Aunt would give us their scraps and we spent hours and hours, sewing & playing. I have no idea what happened to it. I believe my mom said we burned up the motor! LOL!
Anyway, I've been sewing forever and have recently started making quilts for my grandkids - just random pieces sewn together. My daughter wanted a quilt that looked more like a "quilt". She said, "You know, Mom, pieces the same size, matched up, the same colors, like BeeMaw (her paternal grandmother) used to make!"
So, I gave it a try! I really like the planning and finding patterns. I've done a few "Quilts For Kids" after reading about them on this side. I've only done quilting on my regular sewing machine, don't think I'd have the patience for hand quilting!
I've spent years in the pre-press department of printing companies and after several lay-offs in recent years, I've gone back to school and have 16 months left before I can take the test to become a registered nurse!
Most of our family & friends are in New Mexico and as soon as I finish school, we are moving back there. My husband's job brought us here. I have two grown children of my own, two grown stepsons, five grandchildren & five stepgrandchildren! Lots of quilts to make! LOL Here are pics of my Quilts for Kids - the first one "Movers-n-Shakers" is from their kit, it has tractors, dump trucks etc on it. The 2nd one is my own design after looking at pictures on this site.
